Welcome back my newbie bartenders. Today I want you to say hello to this stunner, my Orange Spattered Mule cocktail. It is the fifth cocktail to feature in my new series on how to build your own home bar and is my twisted orange flavored version of the ginger packed classic cocktail, the Moscow Mule. And if you want to know a little bit more on what's going on with this series you get the info HERE.
So who here has had a Moscow Mule before?
And who here has actually made a Moscow Mule before?
Well whether you answered yes or no to these questions, today you are in for a real treat. Cause today I am going to show you how to make my delicious version with the addition of orange and Cointreau.
Yes that's right, I didn't lie last week. We are bringing back the Cointreau bottle for this cocktail.
A BIT OF MULE HISTORY.
Did you know that the Moscow Mule was created in 1941 at the Cock ‘n’ Bull restaurant in Hollywood. Jack Morgan, the owner, had a surplus of ginger beer that was proving difficult to shift and at the same time John Martin from the Heublein drinks company had a slow moving Smirnoff Vodka that he needed to sell. These two got together and created what we know as the Moscow Mule today by combining these two ingredients together with a dash of lime and serving them in a copper mug.
Pretty cool right? Thanks Jack and John!!!
So for today's Orange Spattered Mule cocktail you are going to need both that bottle of Vodka and that bottle of Cointreau that you bought. You are also going to need your BOSTON SHAKER, your MUDDLER, your JIGGER and your HAWTHORN STRAINER.
First you are going to need to release all those juices and oils from the limes and oranges by muddling them in the glass part of the Boston shaker with your muddler with a dash of sugar syrup. Like I have mentioned before this takes a good minute of muddling, so don't stop before that minute is up.
Next using your jigger, measure and pour the vodka and Cointreau into the shaker. Fill with ice cubes and place the metal tin on top. Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
Fill a highball glass or a copper mug if you have one with ice. Using your hawthorn strainer, strain liquid into glass or mug from metal tin part of the Boston shaker.
Top with ginger beer and garnish with orange and lime slices.
And there you have it! A delightfully refreshing cocktail filled with zesty, citrusy flavors with the added punch from the spiciness of the ginger beer. And if you love this cocktail then you may also like to try my GEORGIA SPICED TEA or my ultra refreshing CUCUMBER CRUSH COCKTAIL.
